Say what? An Australian wine!? How did that get in here when our focus is on small family-owned domestic producers? Well, Holme Estate Cellars is an interesting hybrid…and with Australia’s horrific fires that burned across the country from June 2019 to February 2020, we felt compelled to show a little love to our friends down under.
Craig Holme’s family owns vineyards in a small town of only 2,000 people in the outback of Australia. He came to the US in 2005 to intern at Cakebread Cellars. While working here, he met his American wife. They travelled back and forth for a few years, making wine in Australia for their family label. When they decided to settle here permanently, they continued to make their Australian wine and import it for sale here.
