Almaden Valley Winery

  • Almaden Valley Winery is located in San Jose, CA. No tasting room open to the public.  Tastings for small groups available by appointment.
  • They produce a total of 200 cases per year, between Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Santa Clara AVA.
  • Our wines are not fined nor filtered as we believe those methods remove goodness out of the wine. We let nature and gravity do it’s job of clearing the wine over time.

Since our first harvest in 2008, we have been making handcrafted, small lot Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese wines. Our constant goal is to create a memorable experience every time our wine is served.

2014 Sangiovese

  • Produced 100 cases
  • Fermented in Steel, aged for one year in French Oak Barrels, 2 additional years in Steel tanks, and bottled after 3 years

Tasting Notes:
The 2014 growing season produced very good Sangiovese grapes.  Little to no rain in spring and summer weather was perfect for the crop.  Harvest took place between the last two weeks of September and the first week of October.  Across the board, our fruit showed balance of acidity and sugar, good color and tannin structure and good flavor development, which produced a well-balanced medium body wine that can be enjoyed with or without food. This old world wine has a good nose of complex earthy flavors, bold cherry aromas and a spicy finish
