GlenLyon Winery

  • Located in Glen Ellen, CA (Sonoma County) with tastings by appointment only.
  • Produces approximately 2,000 cases annually, including Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a few other fun surprises (dessert wines, sparkling, etc)

Fun facts:

Squire Fridell of GlenLyon Wines, whose email signature line reads "CEO, CFO, COO, EIEIO, WINO & Janitor" was an actor in his past life.  Squire was under contract to Universal Studios with scores of TV shows and films.  He was also the must successful actor ever in TV commercials (over 3,400 on camera!), including being the Toyota spokesman for 29 years (think "Toyotathon").  And, as he puts it, the job that allowed him to move from Southern California was becoming Ronald McDonald from 1984-1991.

For the last 34 years, he has been the owner, grower and vintner at GlenLyon Winery. If you look at the foil and colors on the Hog Wilde Chardonnay (included in the shipment), the stripes pay homage to "Ronald's Stockings".   And note, GlenLyon's wines are not available to the public at large. They only sell directly to their wine club members.  Except for us.  Because we're special.  :)

2019 Hog Wilde Chardonnay

  • 250 cases produced
  • Parmelee Hill fruit, made in a French ‘Chablis’ style without overwhelming minerality.
  • Temperature-controlled stainless steel tank fermentation, then transferred into French Oak barrels

 Tasting Notes:

The wine, very much in the style of the French Chardonnays of Grand Cru Chablis, undergoes only a portion of ML (the conversion of the wine’s acid from malic acid to lactic acid) to maximize the wonderful mouth feel. The Chardonnay is typically kept in barrel for six to nine months. It is a Chardonnay where the fruit is allowed to shine through; it is mouth-watering, crisp, acid-balanced, low alcohol, and most-often reveals a hint of lemon-zest, peach and dried apricot.
