Squire’s Toast was the initial installment of GlenLyon’s “Clown Series” with artwork by artist and friend Karen Gersch. (Those of your who are aware of Squire’s past life in Big Red Shoes will understand Karen’s artwork on the label....) Karen, a renowned Pratt-trained artist living in NYC, has been a circus-clown her entire adult life and her art specialty is her phenomenal circus-themes.
Squire’s Toast is an Estate blend, combining our Estate Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Both the Syrah and Cabernet fruit are wild-yeast fermented, spend three weeks on the skins, are pressed and then barreled in Damy, Vicard 7 and Bernard French oak barrels. We always do a final blend of the two varietals a few months prior to hand-bottling and each year we vary the percentage that goes into the final mix, depending on the results of a blind tasting with friends, family & Clansfolk who happen to be in the neighborhood.
The wine is ruby red in color, has a bouquet of roses and violets, is very soft in tannins and filled with flavors of red raspberries and cherries. It’s VERY easy to drink and is REALLY yummy!
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Squire’s Toast is a versatile wine that compliments nearly any meat dish, from BBQ to Italian to Mexican. Suzy loves it with an aged Spanish Manchego cheese.
